Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda, who was a clinical psychologist, and Luis A. Miranda Jr. who was a Democratic Party counselor, gave birth to an extraordinary child on January 16, 1980, in the city of New York. He was named “Lin-Manuel” after a very famous poem about the Vietnam War “Nana roja para mi hijo Lin Manuel” by José Manuel Torres Santiago. He grew up in Inwood, a neighborhood of New York City.

He completed his schooling at Hunter College Elementary School and Hunter College High School. At the same time, he had a classmate named Immortal Technique (a famous rapper) who bullied him but later became a good friend of his.
